71/4 Locomotive - Brian Baker
Terms of Business
My small business started out of a need to have name plates for my five inch Evening Star that resembled a cast plate. I wanted a deeper style of lettering than that produced by photo etching. After a lot of work node editing text to give a close resemblance of BR text and experimenting with specially ground tooling I achieved my goal. When these were shown to the Northampton club members they wanted one off plates for their locomotives. They persuaded me to start the business and I am very pleased to say most of my orders have been referred through the grapevine by customers, they are the most powerful form of advertising. I let the quality of the plates do the talking!
All plates are deep engraved, made in CZ120 brass in varying thickness depending on the scale of model and are supplied unpainted or painted with a black or red gloss background and polished face.
After receiving an enquiry and confirming the details I produce a 3D machine scan so customers can double check the plates PRIOR to making any payment. For all standard plates I offer a refund less postage guarantee. For bespoke plates they will have seen the scan to ensure it is right.
Timescale for making the plates is approximately six weeks after the CAD has been confirmed and order placed.
They are dispatched when payment is received, first class recorded delivery and a paid invoice confirmation is emailed.
If you visit model engineering exhibitions you can see some samples of my plates on the Model Engineers Laser stand. This specialist business is owned and run by Malcolm J High. His business link is shown here.
In addition, the model engineer suppliers BLACKGATES have a photo album of some plates. There business link is: http://www.blackgates.co.uk/
